Bobcat Golfers Tied for Sixth after Day One at Hobble Creek

Janelle Reali leads the way for MSU
Janelle Reali stands in 13th place and nine of the 10 individual rounds recorded by Bobcat players were in the 70s as Montana State opened its fall golf season at the Hobble Creek Classic in Utah on Monday.
Reali, the team's lone senior, fired a 73-77/150, while freshman Kelly Hooper's opening round 71 was the day's low score for MSU. She followed with an 81. Jaylee Tait finished with a 75-78/153, good for 33rd place, while freshman Natassja Meredith (77-78/155, 38th) and Coral Schulz (79-79/158, 50th) rounded out MSU's scoring.
Basye liked her team's execution in the first round. "We played our games in the first round," she said, "but not so much in the second. Kelly and Janelle played really well in the first round, and led the team in round one. We have to stay committed to each shot no matter what. This team has a ton of talent and we need to play like we will be in the lead each tournament. When we start guiding shots and doubting our games we lose strokes, and that is not OK."
Montana State's team total of 608 is good for a sixth-place tie. Eastern Washington leads the event with a 596, while Big Sky schools Southern Utah (607, 4th), Weber State (608, 6th), Northern Arizona (610, 8th), North Dakota (635, 13th) and Idaho State (686, 14th) are also competing.
Play concludes Tuesday morning with 18 holes. "(Tuesday) I want the team to be committed on every single stroke of the round, and play until the last putt falls."
