Bobcat Golfers Finish Seventh at First Fall Tourney

Freshman Kelly Hooper leads team
Freshman Kelly Hooper finished with a team-low third round total of 75, and the Spokane product's three-round 227 led was good for an 18th-place tie as Montana State finished seventh at the Hobble Creek Classic in Utah on Tuesday.
Hooper's three-round total edged senior Janelle Reali for team honors, and all five Bobcats shot in the 70s in Tuesday's finishing round. "Kelly had a very nice tournament for her first college event," Bobcat head coach Brittany Basye said, "and I'm proud of her. I saw good things from all of our players, but there were also too many missed opportunities and too many high numbers. We can't recover from those."
All five Bobcats were separated by just 10 strokes at Hobble Creek. Junior Jaylee Tait shot 78 on Tuesday to finish with a 231, food for 36th, while freshman Natassja Meredith's 77 boosted her to 232 and a 38th place finish. Coral Schulz finished with a 79, matching her score from the first two rounds, to finish 47th with a three-round 237.
Basye is already looking forward to her team's second tournament of the season next week at Washington State. "We need to have a good couple of days of practice to be ready for our trip to the Palouse," Basye said. "I'll take a hard look at the stats to see where we need to focus our effort. The team will be qualifying Thursday to see who will be in the starting five for the Cougar Cup."
