Montana State Women’s Tennis Team Adds to Roster

The Montana State women’s tennis team has added a pair of standouts to its 2016-17 roster, announced head coach Jon Reeves.
The Montana State women's tennis team has added a pair of standouts to its 2016-17 roster, announced head coach Jon Reeves. Sophomore transfer Laura Mary and freshman Breckyn Steven will be eligible to compete for the Bobcats this fall.
Mary, who transfers to MSU following her freshman season at Coastal Carolina, in a native of Saint Prix, France. As a freshman, she notched a 3-6 singles mark at the No. 2 spot on the ladder. Her three victories came against players from Francis Marion, UNC-Greensboro and UNC-Asheville in the quarterfinals of the Big South Championships. As a team, the Chanticleers recorded an 18-7 overall mark and a 7-2 league slate.
"Laura will make an immediate impact on the program," Reeves said. "She has the tennis background and academic discipline that we are looking to continue adding here at Montana State. Laura began her collegiate career with an ITA preseason national ranking. We will strive to continue her athletic progress here as a Bobcat."
Steven, who is a preferred walk-on, is a product of Wichita, Kansas, where she prepped at Bishop Carroll Catholic High School. As a three-year letterwinner, she helped guide the Golden Eagles to a 29-2 record as a senior. Steven and her partner won the 2015 state doubles title, after finishing runner-up in 2014 and eighth as a sophomore.
"Breckyn Steven will be a perfect fit to the team and will bring a competitive desire to practice daily," Reeves said. "We are very excited to finalize our 2016-2017 roster."
Last season, the Bobcats posted an 8-15 overall mark and a 6-5 Big Sky Conference ledger. MSU returns six letterwinners and will welcome four newcomers this fall.
