MSU OPEN RESULTS

Danielle Rider and Jessica Chrisp kicked off the outdoor season for Montana State track and field, qualifying for the Big Sky Conference Championships despite snowy spring conditions. Rider won the event with a total score of 4,880, while Chrisp earned 4,641 points.

"The way Danielle and Jessica competed the last two days is a great testament to the heptathletes they are," head coach Dale Kennedy said. "The weather was not in their favor, but they fought through it and competed really well. Today we broke the ice of the outdoor season and shook off some cobwebs."

The men's throwers earned six qualifying marks to anchor the Bobcats. Kyle Douglas won two events, throwing the shot put 54.04.5 and marked 161-09. Ty Bermes and Tanner Gambill, the 2015 outdoor javelin champion and runner-up, went one-two in the event with marks of 216-09 and 210-11. Zach Sharp and Calvin Root rounded out the conference qualifiers for the throwers, placing first and second in the hammer with distances of 188-10 and 182-06.

Mitch Horning came out on top of the 100 and 200, posting times of 11.00 and 22.52. Dustin Sobrero finished just .01 seconds behind Horning in the 100, clocking 11.01.

Luke Middelstadt earned the best mark in the pole vault, clearing 15-05.00 in the event.

In the 200, Josephine Petruska and Daryan Box recorded the best times, crossing the finish line in 25.46 and 25.97 seconds. Christie Schiel, Taylor Buschy and Kendra Larson placed first, second and third in the 800, while Kaylee Schmitz placed fifth. Schiel finished in 2:13.49 and Buschy was close behind in 2:14.75.

Montana State will travel to Missoula on April 1 and 2 for the Al Manuel Invite.
