Gambill Wins Javelin, 25 Place in Top Eight at Utah Spring Invite

Montana State track and field senior Tanner Gambill threw 209-00 in the javenlin on Friday evening at the Utah Spring Invitiational to win the event. Although no new Big Sky Conference qualifiers were hit, the Bobcats showed great progress and promising signs for the final month of the season.
"It was a great meet," head coach Dale Kennedy said. "The weather was great and we competed very well. This is a tough meet with a lot of competition and we had some outstanding finishes from a lot of our athletes."
Eric Zechenelly ran a career best in the 400H, crossing the finish line in 54.03 in third place. Christopher Lange finished shortly after him with a time of 56.88 in fifth place. Horning's eighth place finish in the 100 was the sophomore's best time of the season, clocking 10.94.
In the pole vault, Luke Middelstadt earned a new career-best, clearing 15-03 in fourth place and freshman Branygen Anderson placed seventh with a height of 14-09. Kyle Douglas threw a career best shot put in a outdoor meet, throwing 56-03 and placing fourth.
Amanda Jaynes continues to improve her 400H time, earning another career best of 1:00.48 and a second place finish. Jessica Chrisp and Danielle Rider added to the list of lifetime bests in the 100H, with times of 14.48 and 14.70. Rider added a career best javelin throw to the day, marking 134-03 and placing fourth.
The 2015 outdoor 800 champion, Christie Schiel placed seventh in the event with her fastest time of the season, 2:12.97. Rachel Atwood and Louisa Serpe earned top eight finishes in the 5000, clocking times of 18:31.36 and 18:49.57.
Brittnee Grimstad found her way to a second place finish in the shot put after throwing 41-08.75, a personal best. Alexandra Rowland followed her, placing fourth in the event and throwing a distance of 39-03.
Montana State will compete in the Weber State Wildcat Open Saturday afternoon in Odgen, Utah.
