Bobcat Men Sweep in Quad Dual

Montana State's men's track and field team swept Sacramento State, Eastern Washington and Montana in a quad dual Friday evening in Bozeman, while the women topped Montana and Eastern Washington and came out even with Sac.

"Casey Teska really had a great night," head coach Dale Kennedy said. "She didn't hit her career-best, but she ended the night with some great vaults. Overall I thought both teams competed very well and we're continuing to show improvements. There were a lot on great individual performances tonight and reflect how the team scores turned out."

In the women's 200, Montana State went four through seven all within .4 seconds of each other. Josephine Petruksa led the way with a 25.77 mark and Jessica Chrisp finished just behind her in 25.77. Taylor Buschy finished third in the 400 with a time of 59.50 and a duo of freshman, Katie Baxter and Holly Anderson placed fifth (59.58) and sixth (59.65).

Christie Schiel, the BSC Outdoor 800 champion, won the 800 in 2:17.37 in her first race of the season. Kaylee Schmitz finished shortly after, crossing the finish line in 2:17.66. Schmitz also won the mile, hitting a qualifying mark of 5:04.76. Chiara Warned came in second with a time of 5:05.62. In the 3000, the Bobcat's went one-two-three, with Alyssa Snyder placing first (10:12.82) with a BSC qualifying mark, Layne Oliver in second (10:25.35) and Rachel Atwood in third (10:29.89).

Chrisp ran a personal-best 60m hurdles in 8.81 to place second and Danielle Rider finished fourth with a time of 8.96.

Casey Teska cleared the pole vault bar at 13-01.50, her best of the season.

Mitchell Horning hit two qualifying marks for the third straight week in the 60 and 200, placing fourth in the 60 (6.96) and second in the 200 (22.20). Horning's 200 was a personal-best in his Bocbat career. Jadin Casey led MSU in the 400, placing second in 50.14, while Eric Zechenelly finished behind him in third (50.40).

Samuel Bloom won the 800 in 1:57.70 and another new comer Martin Ponce won the mile in 4:22.00 (unadjusted). Diego Leon, Matthew Gotta and Justice lamer took the top three spots in the 3000 with times of 8:25.93, 8:49.04 and 8:49.78. Leon moved up to number eight on MSU's all-time top 10 list.

In the triple jump, Kevin Close came out on top with a BSC qualifying distance of 47-07.00, a lifetime best. Kyle Douglass threw another winning shot put, marking 55-11.00. Calvin Root won the weight throw with a distance of 58-11.25, a conference qualifier.

Montana State remains at home for the rest of the 2016 indoor season, hosting Montana and Weber State on Friday February 12.
