Rider Battles to Finish Second in Pentathlon, Chrisp Places Sixth

PENTATHLON RESULTS | HEPTATHLON RESULTS
It came down to the final seconds of the last event in the 2016 Big Sky Conference pentathlon to decide the winner. Going into the 800, the fifth and final event, Danielle Rider had a slight lead over Montana's Erika McLeod. Despite running the fastest 800 of her career, clocking a time of 2:27.03 wasn't enough. McLeod's 2:14.58 pushed her past Rider in total points. With a second place finish, Rider jumped up to number three on MSU's all time top 10 list with a total score of 3,844.
"Danielle couldn't have done anything more," head coach Dale Kennedy said. "She fought hard in every event and came up just short when it was all said and done. I'm proud of how she competed and look forward to watching her the rest of the meet."
Jessica Chrisp earned the sixth place spot, scoring a career-best 3,601. The junior earned three points for Montana State's team score, while Rider added eight.
With a time of 8.87 in the 60 hurdles, Rider placed second and added herself to the tenth spot on MSU's top 10 list. Chrisp placed fourth overall, running an 8.95 for 920 points. Chrisp finished the 800 in 2:24.38, good enough for fourth place.
Rider won the shot put, throwing 42-01.5, just short of her best mark. The senior placed fifth in the long jump, marking a distance of 18-02.25.
After four events, Mason Storm in sitting in sixth place in the men's heptathlon. Storm placed fifth in the 60, crossing the finish line in 7.31 seconds. His long jump of 21-06.75 was the best in the competition, while he finished the day with a total of 2,687. The men's heptathlon will resume Friday morning at 9 a.m.
"Danielle, Jessica and Mason did a great job getting us started today. We always rely on our multi's to kick off the meet for us and they all competed very well today."
The heptathlon will conclude on Friday morning and will be followed the men's weight throw at 11 a.m.
