Montana State women's golf finished the opening tournament of the 2016 spring season in 10th place at the Grand Canyon Women's Golf Invitational in Phoenix, Ariz. The Bobcats shot 321-322-317 for a 960 point total.
"Overall this isn't where we wanted to finish after our first tournament," head coach Brittany Basye said. "I will look at the state and see where we need to improve as a team. I did see some good things, but as a group we need to continue working on staying in the present. In a three day tournament we are bound to have both good and bad holes, but we need to play smarter and can't let a couple of bad shots lead to more bad shots."
Kati Greear led Montana State, shooting a team low, three-round total of 239 (80-81-78). Greear ended the tournament tied for 42nd at 26 over par. Haylee Folkvord and Jaylee Tait shot matching 79's in the final round, bringing in totals of 242 and 243. Folkvord placed tied for 48th and Tait finished tied for 52nd.
Shooting back-to-back 83's, Janelle Reali placed tied for 55th with a total of 244. Natassja Meredith shot an 81 to place tied for 60th. Meredith shot a team low in the second round of the tournament, firing a 77 on Tuesday.
Lauren Hausauer and Clare Dittemore played as individuals, placing 64th and 73rd. Hausauer totaled 248 (88-82-80), while Dittemore shot a three-day score of 251 (89-82-80).
The tournament's individual winner was Emma Mesta of UT Rio Grand Valley, shooting eight over par at 221. North Dakota State brought in the team title, shooting 918 over the 54 hole competition.
"We will continue to work hard and prepare our games for the Southern Utah invitational. We will be ready to compete at St. George."
