Montana State Opens Spring Season at GCU Invitational

Monday morning will mark the start of the 2016 spring season for Montana State women's golf, playing in the Grand Canyon University Women's Golf Invitational in Phoenix, Arizona. A competitive field will compete with the 'Cats, including two Big Sky schools, Portland State and Northern Colorado. Tee times begin at 8:00 a.m. on Monday morning, with rounds two and three being played on Tuesday and Wednesday for a total of 54 holes.
"I know the team is ready to get outside and hit off of green grass and putt on real greens," head coach Brittany Basye said. "We have been working hard inside the facility and have gotten outside the last couple weeks to hit wedges. I am anxious to get them to the tournament so we can see ball flights, work on our short games and start grinding in these spring tournaments leading to conference. It is critical we play the shots we can execute right now and I have emphasized the importance of having a game plan."
The team will compete with five golfers, while two will be playing as individuals. Janelle Reali, who earned the teams lowest average in the fall (75.4) will lead the 'Cats in the number one spot. Jaylee Tait, Haylee Folkvord, Natassja Meredith and Kati Greear will finish off the competition roster for MSU, while Lauren Hausauer and Clare Dittemore will compete as individuals.
"All seven of these players know their strengths and weaknesses and we need to capitalize on those in this first tournament to play well. The focus here is to stay positive, good course management and finish strong. The schedule is heavy this spring and we have a lot of good golf to look forward to."
The field of teams includes host school Grand Canyon, Wyoming, McNeese State, Nebraska-Omaha, Siena College, South Dakota, Portland State, North Dakota State, Northern Colorado, South Dakota State, Fairleigh Dickinson, UTRGV and Creighton.
