Montana State second-year head coach Jon Reeves announced the signing of three high school standouts to National Letters-of-Intent and a commitment from a preferred walk-on to compete for the Bobcat women's tennis team next fall.
Signing with MSU are Enni Zander, Taby, Sweden, Sara Iverson, Denver, Colorado, and Annie Walker, Las Vegas, Nevada. Sarah Cheverie, Calgary, Alberta, Canada, has accepted an offer of admission to Montana State and will join the Bobcats as a preferred walk-on.
"We have four incredible young women with diverse backgrounds who will be attending MSU in the fall of 2017," Reeves said. "They will be a tremendous benefit to Montana State University academically, athletically and within our Bozeman community. They will make a great impact on the future successes of our program."
Zander, who plays in the highest division in Sweden, is currently ranked No. 13. She saw her highest ranking earlier in the season at No. 8. Two years ago, Zander defeated the No. 1 ranked player Julia Rosenqvist, and in 2013 recorded a victory at the Master playoff. She also competed in the Next Generation Cup.
Iverson prepped at Ecole Oasis Internationale in Cairo, Egypt, and was a member of the Gezira tennis team. Gezira is the No. 1 ranked Egyptian program that has captured six of the last ten national championships. Iverson's recent results include making the U18 quarterfinals in the Ahly Madinet at the Nasr Sporting Club, winning the U18 tennis tournament at the Palm Hills Club, and being a finalist at the U16 Cairo Stadium Tournament.
Walker attends Palo Verde High School and is a four-star recruit currently ranked 108th nationally in the USTA. As a prepster, she notched a 19-0 mark for the Panthers, despite not playing her senior season. A two-time team MVP, she helped Palo Verde to back-to-back state titles. At the state tournament, Walker finished second and third in singles action, respectively.
Cheverie, who has been ranked as high as No. 4 as a junior in Alberta, attends the National Sport School. As a U18 junior, she achieved a national ranking in the top 200 in Canada and has represented Alberta on the provincial team at Canadian Nationals on numerous occasions. Cheverie has competed extensively in the USTA Pacific and California regions, posting multiple singles and doubles titles.
"I couldn't be happier about our recruiting class," Reeves said. "We are making great progress in the program and I am excited for what the future holds."
The Bobcats will lose five seniors to graduation in May.
