NEXT UP: The Big Sky Conference's two hottest teams go head-to-head on Saturday, Dec. 31 at 2 p.m. as Montana State - winner of seven straight games - faces Idaho State - winner of five straight games - in Reed Gym. And, if last season's results are a little indication of what may unfold on Saturday, the fans in Pocatello are in for a barn-burner to ring in the New Year.
ON A SERIES NOTE: Montana State holds a 41-34 advantage in its all-time series with Idaho State dating back to the 1977-78 campaign. In their last 10 meetings, Idaho State holds an 8-2 edge over the Bobcats. Last season, the teams split their two meetings. On Feb. 27, Montana State rallied from a five-point deficit with 19-seconds remaining, and a Delany Junkermier 3-pointer at the buzzer put the contest into overtime. In the extra period, MSU rattled off a 5-0 run to build a 75-69 lead and the Cats held on to post an 82-80 victory. MSU and ISU met two weeks later in the opening-round of the Big Sky Conference tournament. Montana State held a 50-42 advantage with 1:23 remaining, before going ice-cold at the free throw line. Meanwhile, the Bengals chipped the lead down to one-point following a pair of free throws by Apiphany Woods with 39-seconds left. The Bobcats then missed an uncontested layup and a pair of charity tosses, before ISU's Juliet Jones heaved a three-pointer from 25-feet at the buzzer to upset Montana State.
ON A ROLL: The Bobcats are the hottest team in the Big Sky rattling off seven straight victories, including three wins over the West Coast Conference. During its win streak, the Bobcats have averaged 74.7 points per game, while giving up 57.4 points per contest. In addition, Montana State is shooting 46.5 percent from the field, while holding its opponents to 33.5 percent. The Bobcats also hold a sizeable 43.7 to 32.3 rebounding advantage under the glass.
