Bobcats Beat Battlin' Bears in Bozeman

Montana State opens exhibition slate with solid win over Rocky Mountain
A trio of Montana State freshmen impressed in their Bobcat debuts Thursday, as MSU topped Rocky Mountain 75-43 in a women's basketball exhibition game in Bozeman.
Guard Oliana Squires shared the team lead with 15 points, center Blaire Braxton grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds, and forward Madeline Smith scored 10 points with six rebounds to pace the Bobcats. Big Sky Preseason Player of the Year Peyton Ferris scored 15 points and snagged three steals for MSU, while Keisha Engelhardt led the Bears with nine points.
The Bobcats scored the game's first seven points, and while Rocky Mountain answered with an 8-0 run to briefly take the lead MSU outscored the Bears 11-2 in the rest of the quarter to take control of the game. The Cats led 35-21 at halftime, and outscored RMC in each quarter.
A fourth Bobcat freshman, Madisyn Shaide, hit her only shot and came down with a rebound. MSU shot 46% from the floor but out-rebounded the Bears 53-to-34. Madeline Smith scored 10 points and grabbed six rebounds for MSU, and Annika Lai scored eight points with seven rebounds.
Montana State returns to the floor Saturday at 7 pm for an exhibition game against Colorado Christian.
