Goyette and Middel Win First Matches at 2016 ITA Regional Championships

Montana State senior Laura Middel and freshman Chloe Goyette each won their opening singles matches at the 2016 ITA Regional Championship, hosted by the University of New Mexico.
Montana State senior Laura Middel and freshman Chloe Goyette each won their opening singles matches at the 2016 ITA Regional Championship, hosted by the University of New Mexico.
In the 128-participant open draw, Middel defeated Fanni Novak of New Mexico State 6-1, 6-3. Goyette captured her match with a 6-3, 6-2 decision over Idaho's Ana Batiri. Both move on to the round of 64.
As a tandem, Middel and Goyette combined in doubles action to defeat Northern Arizona's Brandy Walker and Marta Lewandowska 8-7 (7-5).
"I'm proud of the start from Laura Middel and Chloe Goyette," said MSU head coach Jon Reeves. "They did not have their best from the start of doubles, but they figured a way to stay in the match and compete. They carried that momentum over to singles and put forth a solid, competitive effort."
Also playing in singles action on Thursday were Jessica Brycki and Laura Mary.
Lois Wagenvoort of UTEP defeated Brycki 6-1, 6-0, while Mary dropped a 6-4, 6-2 decision to
Milena Toseva of Boise State.
