PENTATHLON RESULTS | HEPTATHLON RESULTS
Montana State track and field kicked off the 2016 indoor track and field season with its 11th Annual MSU Combined Events Invitational, competing with cross-state rival, Montana. The women had two pentathletes qualify for the Big Sky Conference Championships, while Mason Storm is on pace to qualify for the men's heptathlon.
Jessica Chrisp and Danielle Rider were neck-and-neck throughout the entire competition, with Chrisp edging out Rider by just 15 points. Chrisp ended the five-event competition in second place, hitting a personal-best pentathlon score of 3568. Rider was close behind with a 3553 point total.
Chrisp led two individual events, winning the high jump with a mark of 5-05.75 and the 800 in (2:28.85). Rider, a 2015 All-Big Sky Conference heptathlete, placed in the top four of every event, which was highlighted by a win in the shot put (40-06.25).
Carlie Haeffner also competed for the 'Cats, showing a score of 2529 in her first pentathlon. Erika McLeod of Montana placed fourth with a point total of 3285, 15 points shy of the Big Sky Conference qualifying mark.
Lindsay Hall, who competed unattached, won the pentathlon, totaling 3779 points.
Storm led the competition through the first day of events with a four-event total of 2770. The junior won the 60m, clocking a time of 7.14. Alexander Lewis in sitting in third place, respectively, in his first heptathlon competition. Lewis won the long jump, jumping 22-01.5 feet.
The men's competition will resume tomorrow morning at 10 a.m.
