Montana State Tennis Standout Crum Named Academic All-District Honoree

Crum, who logged 38 victories in singles play and 33 wins in doubles action during her tenure with the Bobcats, was one of 11 NCAA Division I student-athletes, and the only Big Sky Conference representative, named to the District VII squad.
Montana State tennis standout and Great Falls High product Ellie Crum has been named to the 2013-14 CoSIDA Academic All-District VII Women's At-Large team for her efforts on the court and in the classroom.
Crum, who logged 38 victories in singles play and 33 wins in doubles action during her tenure with the Bobcats, was one of 11 NCAA Division I student-athletes, and the only Big Sky Conference representative, named to the District VII squad.
Also named to the team were Abby Weaver, Kansas State, crew; Petra Niedermayerova, Kansas State, tennis; Michaela Bezdickova, New Mexico, tennis; Jennie Hartjies, Creighton, tennis; Emily Wong, Nebraska, gymnastics; Lara Albright, Oklahoma, gymnastics; Rachel Kennedy, swimming, Air Force; Veronica Popovici, Wyoming, tennis; Melissa Bolling, Colorado State, swimming; and Stefanie Tan, Texas Christian, tennis.
This season, Crum combined with freshman Laura Middel at No. 2 doubles, where the tandem notched a 13-3 overall mark and a 9-1 Big Sky Conference record. The duo's league ledger was the best in the Big Sky this spring.
In the classroom, she finished her academic career with a 4.00 grade-point average in exercise science. She was a four-time Big Sky Conference All-Academic selection. Crum will continue her education at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota this fall, pursuing a career in physical therapy.
"Ellie is the perfect example of how a student-athlete can achieve both on the court and in the classroom," MSU Head Coach Denise Albrecht said. "Here's a Montana kid coming out of Great Falls High to play Division I tennis, while at the same time understanding the importance of getting a quality education. She was able to successfully blend the two together and achieve her goals. Ellie is the standard for what we want in the MSU women's tennis program."
Crum's name will now move on to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration – the highest academic honor awarded to collegiate student-athletes – as voted by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
