Brandes, James continue hot ways despite loss
Weber State won four of six singles matches to post a come-from-behind 4-3 win over Montana State in men's tennis action in Ogden, Utah, on Sunday.
Niklas Brandes led the way for the Bobcats, joining Harry James for a win at No. 1 Doubles then defeating Jakub Gewert in straight sets (6-3, 6-1) at No. 1 singles. James posted MSU's other singles win, a 7-6, 6-3 victory over Caio Poitena at No. 4. The win extended each player's win streak to three.
The Bobcats won the doubles point, with Diego Campos and Markus Schleuter also logging a victory. Weber State quickly jumped in front during singles play, with Sanjay Goswami topping Kenny Dodd 6-3, 6-0 and Todd Fought beating Markus Schleuter 6-1, 6-4 to give the Wildcats a 2-1 lead. Brandes' victory evened the score, and shortly after that James gave the Bobcats a 3-2 lead. But Oliver Good earned a hard-fought 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 win over Javier Martin Morillas, then Landon Barlow defeated Diego Campos 6-3, 6-0 to seal the win.
MSU drops to 8-6 overall, 4-2 in Big Sky play. The Bobcats have a week off before hosting North Dakota (April 12) and Northern Colorado (April 13) in Big Sky matches.
