Bobcats host Portland State at 1 pm
Montana State opens Big Sky Conference play in a big way this weekend, hosting improving Portland State on Saturday at 1 pm and defending league champion Sacramento State Sunday morning at 10.
The Bobcats ride a hot streak into weekend play, with three straight wins for a 3-2 season record, but MSU has not played in two weeks. Second-year coach Jared Burnham said the layoff has benefited the team. "We've worked on being more aggressive in singles," he said. "We have to serve better, and we have a few guys that have to play better at the baseline."
Portland State brings a new look to the Bobcat-Anderson Tennis Center on Saturday. "It is a different looking team," Burnham said of the Vikings. "They're getting better, and we'll have to be ready."
Perhaps the season's most formidable challenge arrives Sunday, when Sacramento State invades. "They've won the tournament the last several years," Burnham said of the Hornets. "I think it will be a really good match. I expect the guys to be fired up and ready to play."
Sacramento State is 2-6 on the season, but has faced a powerful national schedule.
