* The Montana State women's basketball team will open its 2014 Big Sky Conference home slate when its hosts Portland State and Eastern Washington, this Thursday night and Saturday afternoon in Worthington Arena. The Bobcats are 4-0 on the home hardwood this season.
* The Bobcats split a pair of Big Sky road games last weekend, losing at Sacramento State, 107-95, before knocking off Northern Arizona, 80-72, in Flagstaff.
* Jackie Elliott was named Montana State's Player of the Week after averaging 24.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 2.0 steals, while shooting an impressive 63 percent from the field and 77 percent from the free throw line. Against Sacramento State, the Billings Central grad notched a career-high 25 points.
* The Bobcats did a nice job shooting the ball in the opening week of Big Sky Conference play, hitting at a 46.2 percent clip. In its loss at Sacramento State, MSU shot 51 percent from the field, which included a 54 percent effort against the Hornets in the first half. In its victory over Northern Arizona, Montana State shot 41 percent for the game, including 49 percent in the second stanza. The Bobcats are second in the Big Sky Conference shooting the ball.
* While shooting efficiently from the field, things have been less than charitable from the free throw line. MSU connected on just 33-54 attempts from the charity stripe in the opening weekend, and sit second to last in the Big Sky Conference shooting 61 percent.
* A former point-guard, head coach Tricia Binford has to be happy with MSU's +1.2 assist/turnover ratio. After dialing up 24 miscues in its loss to Sacramento State, the Bobcats cut the turnover margin to just 16 against Northern Arizona. On the weekend, MSU averaged a whopping 23.0 assists per game.
* Portland State (4-8, 2-1) split a pair of home league game last weekend in the Stott Center, defeating Weber State, 66-60, and losing to Idaho State, 76-64. The Vikings raised eyebrows in its BSC season-opener at Eastern Washington as they defeated the preseason Big Sky favorite 86-74.
* PSU has three players averaging in double figures, including Kate Lanz (13.9 ppg), Allie Brock (12.1 ppg) and Angela Misa (10.5 ppg).
* Montana State leads the all-time series with the Vikings 31-20 dating back to the 1976-77 season. MSU has won three-of-the-last-four meetings between the two schools. Last winter, the teams' split- each winning on their opponents' home court.
* Eastern Washington plays at Montana on Thursday, before making the trek to Bozeman. The all-time series with EWU is tied at 38-38 going back to the 1976-77 campaign. However, the Eagles have had the upper-hand lately, winning five-of-the-last-six outings. Lexie Nelson is averaging 22.7 ppg.
