Jake Bleskin Preps for First Career Start

Soph from Great Falls becomes first Cat other than McGhee to start in 40 games
Alex Singleton, who understands as well as anyone Jake Bleskin's task in his first start as Montana State's quarterback today after DeNarius McGhee's injury at SMU last week, just smiled at the question.
"He'll be fine," said Singleton, his ever-present grin spreading across his face. "He practices well, he does a great job. He'll play well."
Singleton entered last fall's game at UC Davis, which ended up as a wild 48-41 Bobcat road win, after All-America linebacker Jody Owens was injured. He responded brilliantly, piling up nine tackles, two for a loss, with a sack and a pass breakup.
The circumstances surrounding the younger of MSU's two Bleskin brothers are different. He has a week to prepare for his debut, which is at home against a Division II opponent, while Singleton was tossed into the fire in the middle of a conference road game. Bleskin also faces an opponent geared toward defending him and his circumstances.
Bleskin, as he has throughout his career, takes it in stride. "I think it will be cool," the third-year sophomore said of trotting onto the Bobcat Stadium turf knowing the controls are his.
Weapons abound for Jake Bleskin, starting with his brother. Tanner Bleskin has a dozen catches, twice the number of the next receiver on MSU's stats list, and averages 97.0 yards a game. Speedy Jon Ellis and rangy Brian Flotkoetter are nice complements.
Jake Bleskin's allies in the run game come in all shapes and sizes. Cody Kirk hopes to spearhead a potent ground attack behind an offensive line that is increasingly seen as a major strength for MSU. The group without a senior has allowed just two sacks on the season while producing two different 100-yard rushers in the first two games.
Ash has been impressed. "This is the first line in my time here that can be dominant," he said. "They have the physical ability to go out and move anybody."
With Bleskin at the signals, the O-line's ability to do that may prove crucial.
