PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINEES
Offense – QB Jake Bleskin (6-1, 195, So, Great Falls, MT)
Jake Bleskin turned in one of the finest starting debuts by a quarterback in Bobcat history, throwing for 305 yards and two touchdowns in leading Montana State to a 26-0 win over Colorado Mesa at Bobcat Stadium Saturday. Bleskin set the tone on MSU's first offensive play, connecting with Jon Ellis on a 44-yard gain and setting up a field goal. Bleskin's first four drives as MSU's starting quarterback resulted in a field goal, two touchdowns, and one loss of possession on downs. He finished the game 26-for-35 passing, with 10 of those completions to his brother Tanner.
Defense – LB Alex Singleton (6-2, 227, Jr, Thousand Oaks, CA)
In a game dominated by Montana State's defense, junior linebacker Alex Singleton turned in a dominating performance. His first quarter interception and touchdown return of 23 yards gave the Bobcats an 11-0 lead that would prove insurmountable. It was his second interception of the season. He logged six total tackles, including five solos and four for a loss. He also broke up two passes. Singleton currently stands second in the FCS with 2.8 tackles-for-loss per game. Singleton's effort helped Montana State pitch its first shutout since 2006 and hold Colorado Mesa to just nine first downs and 168 total yards.
Special Teams – Gunnar Brekke (5-11, 180, Fr, Helena, MT)
Participated in 21 special teams plays, grading out at 93%.
BOBCAT NOTES
• Senior defensive end Brad Daly leads the FCS in sacks (2.3 per game) and tackles for loss (3.3 per game). Junior linebacker Alex Singleton is second in tackles for loss with 2.8 per game.
• Jake Bleskin threw for 305 yards Saturday, the second-highest total ever by a quarterback making his starting debut for the Bobcats (Joe Volek threw for 358 against) and only the third player to throw for at least 300 yards in his first MSU start.
• Although Saturday's win against Colorado Mesa fell just short (98 yards), Montana State has rushed for at least 100 yards in 57 of Rob Ash's 75 games as Bobcats head coach. Of those 18 games under 100 rushing yards, Saturday was just the third win.
• Jake Bleskin's 300-yard passing game was the 11th by a Rob Ash-coached quarterback, the third-highest total by any MSU head coach (Dave Arnold accounted for 15, Mike Kramer 13).
• Tanner Bleskin's 10-catch game Saturday was the third of his career, and matched a career-high.
• Montana State has been bereft of turnovers in its first three games, joining Western Illinois and Bucknell as the only FCS teams with that distinction, and at +6 in turnover margin is tied with Southern Utah for the Big Sky lead.
