Major weather delays don't hold Bobcats back on second day of NCAA Regionals
The second day of the NCAA West Regional Preliminary meet suffered major weather delays but that didn't stop Montana State Track and Field.
The highlight of the night, without a doubt, was Grant Grosvenor's performance in the 800. He finished ninth overall with a time of 1:49.68 to punch his ticket to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore. June 6-9. Matt Tex also competed in the quarterfinal race and placed 20th overall in his first NCAA regional meet. Tex logged a time of 1:51.03
“This was a great race for both of our 800 guys,” said head coach Dale Kennedy. “While Matt may not have advanced out, it was still great experience for both Grant and Matt and they're reaping rewards of their efforts.”
Chris Wilson competed in the 200 and placed 47th in the field with a time of 21.98.
MSU had two competitors in the 3,000 steeplechase. Jacob Kirk took 31st in the men's race with a time of 9:06.12 in his first NCAA Regional appearance.
In the women's steeple, Heather Demorest came in 31st at her regional debut. Her time of 10:26.41 marked a new lifetime best for the junior from Darby, Mont.
In the shot put, Trevor Gilreath had his highest finish at Regionals, coming in 23rd in the field of 48. He threw a distance 17.02m (55-10.25).
For David Phillips and Sean Ferriter, the hammer throw fell to the weather gods and was rescheduled for Saturday.
