Jared Burnham gets his first look at Bobcats
Jared Burnham gets to see his first Montana State men's tennis team in action Saturday, when the Bobcats square off with a team of MSU alums at 12 noon Saturday in the Anderson-Bobcat Tennis Center.
“I want to see us get better” on Saturday, Burnham said, “and I want to see the guys compete. It will be good for them to see different faces across the net. They've worked hard, and it will be good for them to play.”
The 2013 Bobcats, Burnham's fist at MSU after arriving from a similar position at Weber State, returns six lettermen but no seniors. Second Team All-Big Sky selection Niklas Brandes, a sophomore, leads the way. A quartet of juniors who have enjoyed success at MSU also return – Diego Campos, Kenny Dodd, Markus Schleuter and Prithiv Sivasubramaniam.
Saturday's alumni match features eight singles matches, and four doubles matches. “Our alumni will provide good competition,” Burnham said. “This will be a good test for our team.”
The Bobcats open the season next weekend at the Air Force Academy. MSU faces Seattle on Friday, Jan. 25, and Air Force on Saturday. On Sunday, the Bobcats travel to Greeley to open Big Sky play against Northern Colorado at 9 am.
