MSU extends season-opening road trip
The early-season road is tough, but Mike Phillips knows where it leads.
“These matches against quality opponents will make us better,” Montana State's veteran men's tennis coach says. “The guys are competing hard and learning and improving every time out. That's the important thing.”
The tough road continues for the Bobcats on Friday, when they play at Boise State at 9 am. Montana State's 2-4 start includes losses to nationally-ranked squads from Oregon and BYU and regional powers Portland and Utah. But it also includes wins over Big Sky foe Portland State and WAC rival Utah State. More impressively, Phillips says, MSU's early season is punctuated by individual successes.
“We've had some individuals compete very well against really tough players and doubles teams, highly-rated opponents, and that has been a positive. That gives us confidence going forward.” After Friday's Boise State match, the Cats host Montana on February 18 at 10 am.
