Hornets shoot 62% in impressive shooting performance
Sacramento State mixed a scorching second half with cold Bobcat shooting to top the Bobcats 86-76 in Sacramento on Thursday. The Hornets extended their winning streak to four with the win, handing MSU its fourth straight loss.
The Hornets used a 15-4 spurt surrounding halftime and led by as many as 17 points in the second half. Sacramento State built its lead on hot shooting, hitting 62.2% of its shots from the floor and 58% from three-point range. MSU shot 41%.
“Offensively we were sluggish at the start, but so were they,” MSU coach Brad Huse said on his post-game radio show. “Then they started nailing threes. They were able to take it off the bounce and take the ball where they wanted it.”
Joe Eberhard led all players with 23 points for Sac State, while Konner Veteto added 15 off the bench. Jackson Carbajal and Dylan Garrity each added 14. Garrity, the Hornets' freshman point guard, assisted on 16 of Sac State's 28 field goals. Tre Johnson scored 17 points to lead the Bobcats, while Shawn Reid added 16 points. Each player shot 6-for-13 from the floor. Johnson grabbed seven boards.
Huse was pleased with his team's effort in cutting the 17-point lead to five late in the second half. “Our guys fought, they continued to battle,” Huse said. “We're not potent enough at times, and we have to get back to defending.”
The Bobcats visit Greeley, Colo., Saturday for a noon tipoff against Northern Colorado.
