Bobcats Use Three-Point Barrage to Topple League-Leading Portland State

Jed Miller scores 25 points to pace MSU
BOZEMAN, Mont. (Feb 26, 2026) – Thursday was a night for shooters in Worthington Arena.
Montana State drained 15 three-pointers, including 10 combined by Jed Miller and Seth Amunrud, boosting the Bobcats to an 84-69 win over Big Sky-leading Portland State. Both teams shot 50 percent from three-point range.
"When we get out in transition and share the basketball, which we always do, we have a great opportunity to get quality shots," said MSU head coach Matt Logie. "Our guys stepped up with confidence and knocked them down."
Miller and Amunrud maintained the three-point parade throughout the night, but it was Jeremiah Davis that staked the Cats to a lead. He scored the game's first eight points, then Chris Hodges converted an and-one three-point play and MSU led 11-0 three minutes into the game.
Those three minutes told the tale of the entire evening. Portland State drew to within five points near the midway mark of the first half on a Sebastian Tidor jumper, but a Jed Miller and-one layup followed by three free throws from the Bobcat senior pushed the lead into double-digits at 30-19.
The Vikings trimmed MSU's lead to five twice early in the second half, when PSU's Terri Miller single-handedly kept Portland State in the game. He hit a basket one minute into the period to pull the Vikings with 43-38, then answered a Christian King three-pointer with one of his own.
When Miller left the floor, Jaylin Henderson poured in a couple of buckets, and eight minutes into the second half the Vikings trailed by only 10. Terri Miller's three-pointer at 11:07 cut MSU's lead to 63-53, but at that point Jed Miller took over. He hit a basket, and after a Chris Hodges layup hit a three-pointer to push MSU's lead to 17 points. The Vikings never got closer than the 15-point margin when the game ended.
While Portland State matched the Bobcats in three-point field goal efficiency, it couldn't approach the volume. Montana State shot 15-for-30 from the arc, while PSU hit nine of its 18 three-pointers.
The Cats also dominated inside the arc, hitting 14-for-26 inside the arc. PSU was 17-for-40 on its two-point shots. Logie credited his team's defensive mindset and physicality for overcoming a bigger Vikings team.
"We did a good job negating the size advantage that Portland State has," Logie said. "It just takes all five guys getting in there for some trench warfare and some physicality that has to take place to dig it out of there once in a while, and our guys did a good job especially setting in the tone early."
Montana State hit at least 50 percent of its shots for the third time in the most recent four games, and Logie said his team's attention to details on the offensive end led to its good efficiency. "I thought our screening was better, our floor spacing was better to make that happen, and then we know what the guys can do (shooting)."
The win kept Montana State's hopes to grab a share of the Big Sky regular season championship alive. Portland State is now 12-4 in Big Sky play and have clinched a share of the league crown, but MSU stands 10-6 and could win a share with wins over Sacramento State on Saturday and at Northern Arizona on Monday. PSU plays at Montana on Saturday before hosting Weber State on Monday.
Jed Miller lauded his team's commitment to staying in the fight. "We're resilient," he said. "We've got a resilient group of guys, me and the other two seniors that are currently playing now are full of resilience and we have no quit. We're going to keep going until the wheels come off."
Jed Miller finished with a team-high 25 points to pace the Bobcats. He also grabbed nine reboundes, dished out three assists, snagged three steals and blocked a shot. Amnrud's 22 points and six three-pointers were career bests, and he added two steals. King also scored 13 points to crack double-digits.
Terri Miller Jr. scored a game-high 28 points, while Henderson added 19 for Portland State. They were the only Vikings in double-digits scoring. Tre-Vaughn Minott snared 11 caroms.
