The Montana State women’s basketball squad converted 10-of-12 free throw tosses in the final minute of the game to secure a 71-65 victory over Utah State, Saturday afternoon in the Dee Glenn Events Spectrum.

The Montana State women's basketball squad converted 10-of-12 free throw tosses in the final minute of the game to secure a 71-65 victory over Utah State, Saturday afternoon in the Dee Glenn Events Spectrum.

Leading 61-57 with just under a minute to go, and coming off five consecutive free throw misses, sophomore Jackie Elliott went to the line and connected on a pair of charity makes to give Montana State(5-1) a six-point cushion they would not relinquish.

“I was proud of the way we played down the stretch,” said MSU head coach Tricia Binford. “We had great possessions when it counted and really responded well when faced with a tight situation.

Sophomore Kalli Durham paced the Bobcats with 18 points, including three 3-pointers. Also in double-figures for MSU were Ashley Brumwell 14, Rachel Semansky 13 and Elliott 11. Brumwell posted her first double-double of the season hauling down a team-best ten rebounds. Semansky posted nine boards as the Bobcats out-rebounded Utah State (2-5) 48-30.

In a game that featured nine lead changes and seven ties, MSU shot 44 percent from the field and connected on 18-of-28 free throws. The Aggies shot 38 percent and hit 14-of-20 charity tosses.

Senior Latisha Adams also made a big contribution for the Bobcats with six assists and five points.

“(La) Tish really gave us a big lift on both ends of the floor,” Binford said. “She came in and established a nice tempo and really settled us down. I also thought Ashley hit some big shots for us, as well.”

USU was led by Jenna Johnson with 20 points and 10 rebounds.

Montana State will host Tennessee State on Monday night in Worthington Arena at 7 p.m.
