Montana State's weekend road trip continues Saturday, as the Bobcats face Northern Arizona in Flagstaff at 6:35 pm. The game is televised on Fox College Sports.
MSU Game Notes vs. NAU
While the Bobcats dropped a game at league-leading Weber State on Thursday, MSU coach Brad Huse likes how his team has competed away from Worthington Arena this season. “We've played well on the road at times this year,” Huse said. “We've competed hard. This is a difficult league for road teams, and our guys have fought hard.”
MSU managed to stay close against Weber State by controlling the boards, out-rebounding the Wildcats 43-to-40, and limiting the home team to 33% shooting from the floor. But an old bugaboo haunted the Bobcats, as MSU shot just 34%.
The main contributing factor was Weber State's scoring margin from the free throw line. The Wildcats scored 14 points from the stripe on 14-for-17 shooting, while MSU was 2-for-6. That is an unusual turn of events for MSU, which has shot more free throws than its opponent on the season.
MSU will need to overcome a season-long trend in order to compete at the Rolle Activities Center on Saturday. The Bobcats shoot just 39.3% in road games this season, while converting at a 47.0% clip at home. The Cats have shot 82 more free throws in home games than on the road, too.
Compounding the problem is MSU's woes at elevation in Flagstaff. The Bobcats have lost 10 straight road games to NAU.
