Wildcats 17-to-6 free throw advantage proves decisive
Damian Lillard scored eight of his 17 points during a 15-4 run midway through the second half, pacing Weber State to a 63-49 win over Montana State in Ogden on Thursday night.
Scott Bamforth scored a game-high points for the Wildcats, including eight in the opening moments of the second half. Montana State erased a six-point Wildcat lead in the last four minutes of the opening period, and reached intermission with the scored tied at 27. Bamforth's jumper at 14:09 gave the Bobcats a 39-31 edge, but a layup by Jourdain Allou, dunk by Xavier Blount and three-pointer by Jeff Budinich drew MSU to within one.
That was the closest the Bobcats would get. Kyle Tresnak's dunk at 11:08 started Weber's win-clinching run, as MSU missed its next eight shots. Budinich scored 12 points, one from his career high, and Mike Dison added 11 points and six rebounds. Montana State shot 34% from the floor to Weber State's 33%, but the Bobcats turned the ball over 14 times, forcing only eight Wildcat miscues.
Montana State falls to 7-8 overall, 2-2 in league play. Weber State is now a Big Sky-best 13-3 and 5-0. The Bobcats travel to NAU for a 6:30 game on Saturday, televised on Fox College Sports. Weber State hosts Montana.
