Montana State sophomore Rachel Semansky posted her third consecutive double-double with a game-high 23 points and 11 rebounds to lift the Bobcats to a 62-46 win over Eastern Washington, Thursday night at Reese Court.
Montana State sophomore Rachel Semansky posted her third consecutive double-double with a game-high 23 points and 11 rebounds to lift the Bobcats to a 62-46 win over Eastern Washington, Thursday night at Reese Court.
Semansky finished the game shooting 53 percent from the field, while adding three assists and three steals.
“We did a nice job recognizing the hot hand and getting Rachel (Semansky) the ball,” said MSU head coach Tricia Binford. “Eastern Washington mixed up their defense in the first half, and we got comfortable with what they were doing in the second half and started knocking down some shots.”
Tied at 26-all at intermission, Montana State (17-12, 11-4) opened the second stanza on a 20-6 run and never looked back. The run was sparked by a pair of three-pointers from Lyndi Seidensticker.
The Bobcat defense held Eastern Washington (12-16, 8-7) to 46 points- the best defensive outing for MSU this season. Montana State limited the Eagles to 33 percent from the floor, including an icy 26 percent in the second period.
“I'm ecstatic with our defense,” Binford said. “It's a tribute to our toughness on that end of the floor.”
Also in double-figures for MSU were Seidensticker 14 and Katie Bussey 12. Seidensticker finished with four triples.
EWU was paced in the loss by Brianne Ryan with 10 points and five rebounds.
MSU will complete its regular-season slate at Portland State on Saturday afternoon. A Bobcat win, coupled with a Northern Colorado loss at Idaho State, would give Montana State hosting honors for the Big Sky Conference tournament.
