Bobcat Women’s Tennis Team Topples Lady Griz

The Montana State women’s tennis team toppled intra-state rival Montana 3-2 in exhibition play, Sunday afternoon in the Bobcat-Anderson Tennis Center.
The Montana State women's tennis team toppled intra-state rival Montana 3-2 in exhibition play, Sunday afternoon in the Bobcat-Anderson Tennis Center.
Playing an agreed upon five-point match, Montana State won the doubles point as Jennifer Coll and Andrea De La Torre combined to defeat Montana's Constance Alexander and Ashley Mackey 9-8 in a tiebreaker.
The Bobcats also received a point at No. 1 singles, where Charlotta Hjalmarsson battled back from a 5-2 deficit to win the first set 7-5, before the Lady Griz' top player Rebecca Bran retired.
MSU clinched the match at No. 4 singles, where true-freshman Ellie Crum (Great Falls) completed a straight set 6-4, 7-5 victory over UM's Lauren Gibson.
“I thought the girls played great for our opening weekend,” said MSU head coach Denise Albrecht. “Playing three matches back-to-back-to-back is always tough, but we dug down deep and posted a couple of victories.”
MSU defeated Gonzaga 4-3 on Saturday.
The Bobcats will travel to New Mexico State and New Mexico this weekend.
