Cold shooting leads to MSU's demise in Malibu

Pepperdine used a 10-0 run early in the second half to blow open a close game, then cruised to a 59-36 win over Montana State in Malibu on Sunday.

The Waves outscored MSU 36-19 after halftime, and benefited from the Bobcats' worst shooting game of the season. MSU shot just 28% for the game, hitting just one of its 10 three-point tries and 5-of-12 from the line. Montana State was able to keep the game close in the first half - MSU trailed 23-17 at the intermission - by holding the Waves to just 32% shooting in the first half.

Beginning with their 10-0 scoring run just less than three minutes into the second half, the Waves began a shooting tear that carried them to the home victory. Taylor Darby and Corbin Moore, the team's inside weapons and leading scorers, combined for six of the 10 points in that decisive run and 27 of Pepperdine's 59 points.

Tre Johnson led the Bobcats with 10 points and five rebounds. He hit five of his eight field goal attempts, the only Bobcat to hit halfo f his shots. The rest of the squad shot 10-for-45.

MSU's final non-conference road trip ends Tuesday night at New Mexico. Tipoff is 7 pm.
