MSU faces youthful, talented Seattle squad in Fieldhouse
If Saturday's win over Pac 12 entry Utah served as a proving ground for Montana State, much of the proving came in the paint.
“It was a battle down there,” Bobcat sophomore Tre Johnson said with a smile. The explosive forward scored 15 points, grabbed six rebounds and blocked a pair of shots to lead MSU's interior effort. He teamed with center Mohammed Fall and reserve forward Jourdain Allou to shoot 16-for-24 from the field while grabbing 15 rebounds.
MSU coach Brad Huse called his team's inside production “opportunistic. They got some putbacks off offensive rebounds, but at the same time they were really efficient. When we got the ball in scoring position they took advantage.”
The Bobcats face a different challenge Tuesday night when Seattle University comes to Brick Breeden Fieldhouse. Fresh off a pair of narrow losses that Huse characterized as “heartbreaking,” Seattle is led by Aaron Broussard, who averages 18.0 points and 4.0 rebounds a game, and Clarence Trent, who chips in 14.0 points a game with 5.0 rebounds.
Seattle dropped a 66-65 road contest to Portland State before losing 69-63 to San Francisco.
Huse calls Seattle “really a talented group. They have a lot of new players and they've lost a couple of really, really tough games, but it looks like a team that is improving every time out. I know they'll come in here and play well.”
Tip time for Tuesday's contest is 7 pm. The Seattle game marks MSU's only home game in nearly a three week stretch.
