Blount'17 points not enough for Bobcats
Seattle scored on its last seven possessions of the first half and its first five of the second to take control of a game it would win 85-73 in Bozeman on Tuesday.
The Redhawks shot 56% from the floor, including 63% in the second half, while holding the Bobcats to 38% shooting. Aaron Broussard led the visitors with 23 points, while Eric Wallace added 18 points and eight rebounds.
“The end of the first half was critical,” said MSU head coach Brad Huse, “and the start of the second. We just couldn't get stops. Whether we lost some edge or they just executed I don't know for sure. We have to guard with a purpose for longer in those situations. Give Seattle a lot of credit, they got the ball to their main weapons and played very well.”
MSU and Seattle battled on even terms through much of the first half. The Bobcats led 27-22 on a Xavier Blount free throw with five-and-a-half minutes left, but Seattle's seven-possession scoring streak allowed the Redhawks to outscore MSU 17-6 for the remainder of the half and take a 39-33 lead into the intermission.
Seattle continued to get the ball to good spots on the offensive end into the second half, grabbing a 50-38 lead with 17:38 to play. The Bobcats would not get closer than seven points the rest of the way.
Xavier Blount led the Bobcats with 17 points, while Rod Singleton added 14. Mohammed Fall grabbed seven boards to lead MSU, which was out-rebounded 40-26. The Bobcats forced 20 SU turnovers, which allowed Montana State to stay close for the first 25 minutes.
Montana State returns to action Saturday, visiting Idaho. Tipoff is slated for 8 pm MT.
