The Montana State women's basketball team committed 29 turnovers and the University of Portland turned MSU's miscues into 32 points to cruise to an 82-61 victory, Friday night in Worthington Arena.
“I felt we had some upperclassmen trying to do too much and our energy was in the tank,” said MSU head coach Tricia Binford. “Portland can put up a lot of points. We were struggling with our transition defense; had few defensive stops and combined with the turnovers; it got away from us quickly.”
Portland (7-3) shot 44 percent from the field in the opening stanza and converted 14 Montana State (2-8) turnovers into 11 points to hold a 44-29 advantage at intermission.
In the second half, the Pilots connected for 54 percent from the floor, while the Bobcats hit at a 36 percent clip.
MSU was paced in the loss by Katie Bussey with a game-high 18 points. Also in double-figures was Sarah Balian with 14 points.
UP had five players in double-digits led by Natalie Day and Sarah Kliewer with 14 points, apiece.
MSU will host Cal State Bakersfield on Dec. 20
