The University of Montana used a strong serving game and staved off a late Montana State rally to post a 25-21, 25-19, 25-23 win over the Bobcats, Friday night in front of a standing room only crowd of 1,649 in Shroyer Gym.

Both Montana State (10-12, 3-6) and Montana (10-10, 6-3) exchanged leads in the opening set, before the Grizzlies broke away from an 18-17 deficit with four unanswered points. UM close out the set on a Brooke Bray kill.
The Bobcats gave up seven points in its service game with five errors coupled by two UM aces.
“Our serve-receive game wasn't where we needed it to be,” said MSU head coach Sara Schaub. “Montana is a good team and played well, but we didn't take care of things when we had an opportunity.”
UM outhit MSU .382 to .184 in the second set to cruise to the win.
In the final stanza, the Grizzlies jumped out to a 17-11 advantage before the Bobcats rallied with an 8-2 run to tie the score following a Jennifer Lundquist kill. Montana answered with three straight points for a 22-19 cushion.
The Bobcats fought off three match points to pull to within 24-23 on a Rachelle Allen kill, but a MSU hitting error on the next play gave UM the victory.
“We finally started getting in the groove at the end of set three,” Schaub set. “We did a nice job fighting back, but it was just too late.”
Allen and Sarah Horton paced MSU with nine kills each, while Taylar Barney added seven kills and Alex Penewell eight.
Defensively, the Bobcats were paced by Meghan Albiston with 13 digs, followed by Lundquist 11 and Allen 10.
Montana was led by Brittany Quick with 13 kills and a .632 attack mark.
MSU will travel to Eastern Washington next Friday
