
Ells, Brueck Post Scoring Performances in the Pentathlon to Open Big Sky Indoor Championships

Bobcat women sit in fourth place after day one of competition
POCATELLO, Idaho --- The Montana State women's track & field team earned a pair of scoring performances in the pentathlon to finish day one of the Big Sky Indoor Track & Field Championships in fourth place.
Hailey Ells and Sabine Brueck finished fifth and seventh, respectively, in the pentathlon to tally a total of six points for the Bobcats to open the meet on Thursday. Their marks moved them into eighth and ninth in program history to kick off the meet. On the men's side, Preston Wysocki sits in second place after four events in the heptathlon, highlighted by the No. 10 60-meter dash in program history in his first event of the day in Pocatello.
Ells tallied 3,559 points to move from ninth to eighth in Montana State history in the pentathlon, finishing fifth overall in Pocatello. She opened the day with a converted time of 9.11 for a ninth-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles before tying for 10th in the high jump with a mark of 1.50 meters/4 feet, 11 inches. After posting a ninth-place long jump mark (9.74m/31-11.50), she earned a pair of third-place marks in the long jump (5.71m/18-8.75) and the 800-meter run (2:23.06) to climb to fifth and tally four points for the Bobcats.
Brueck clocked a converted time of 9.12 for 10th place in the 60m hurdles to open the day. She then tied for third in the high jump with a clearance of 1.59m/5-2.50. Brueck placed 13th in the shot put with a throw of 7.66m/25-1.75 before posting a fourth-place mark of 5.64m/18-6 in the long jump. In the 800m, she finished runner-up with a time of 2:20.35 to clinch seventh place in the pentathlon and earn the Cats two points.
Wysocki finished day one of competition in second place in the heptathlon with 3,126 points through four events, sitting just 16 points off the lead. He posted the No. 10 60m dash time in Montana State history with a converted 6.91 to win the heptathlon's opening event. He then finished third in the long jump (6.89m/22-7.25) and the shot put (12.40m/40-8.25) before posting a runner-up performance in the high jump with a clearance of 1.98m/6-6. He finished in the top three in all four events on Thursday and will compete in the 60m hurdles, pole vault, and 1,000m to wrap up the heptathlon on Friday.

The Bobcats will continue competition at the Big Sky Indoor Championships starting at 10 a.m. on Friday with the heptathlon 60m hurdles featuring Preston Wysocki and the men's weight throw which includes Matt Furdyk, Easton Hatleberg, and Ben Parks. The women will compete in their first event at 12:30 p.m. as the Bobcat quartet of Jenavieve Lynch, Sydney Mattfeldt, Sydney Brewster, and Maggie Hillis vie for the weight throw title at the ICCU Dome.
