After dramatic playoff victory for third career tournament title, junior Lauren Greeny earns recognition from conference office
GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- Following a dramatic tournament victory at the Bobcat Desert Classic, junior Lauren Greeny was named Big Sky Golfer of the Week, the conference office announced on Thursday.
Greeny, a junior from Pullman, Washington, earns her third weekly honor from the league office after securing her third individual tournament title of the season.
Trailing the leader by three strokes entering Wednesday's final round in Goodyear, Arizona, Greeny turned into a birdie machine and carded a 4-under-par 68 to force a playoff for the crown, defeating Idaho's Zoe Newell on the first hole with a remarkable 20-foot par save putt after hitting her tee shot astray.
Greeny's three-day stroke total of 208 tied her for the third-best 54-hole tournament score in program history.
The junior tallied 16 birdies on the week, including eight alone with a first round score of 5-under-par 67. The next-closest competitor in the field carded 12 birdies.
Greeny is just the second-ever Bobcat to win three tournaments in a season, joining teammate Scarlet Weidig (2022-23), and is just the third-ever Bobcat to win three or more tournaments in a career with Weidig (2022-present) and Jen McGregor (1993-97).
Led by Greeny, Montana State tied for second as a team competing at the Bobcat Desert Classic, the Cats' home tournament held at Golf Club of Estrella.
Montana State shot an even-par 864 (291-287-286) for the second-best 54-hole tournament score in school history.
The Bobcats are staying in Arizona for the rest of the week in preparation for the 2025 Big Sky Championships, held at The Wigwam Resort in Litchfield Park from Monday, April 14, through Wednesday, April 16.
