MSU drops dual to 38th-ranked Boise State
Bobcat sophomore Andre Stewart captured a win at No. 2 singles, but Montana State dropped a 6-1 men's tennis decision at No. 38 Boise State on Friday.
Stewart took his victory in dramatic fashion. After dropping the first set 6-1 he rallied for a 7-6 (7-2 tie-breaker) win in the second set, then won the third set in a super tie-breaker, 14-12. "I'm happy for Andre," said Bobcat head coach Mateus Ceolin. "That was a well-fought win for him. He left his heart on the court, played a physical breed of tennis, trusting his game and gonig for his shots in the right moments."
Boise State captured the doubles point by winning 6-0 at No. 1 and 6-2 at No. 2. The Broncos then clinched the team win with victories at No. 3 singles (James Van Herzeele defeated Yassin Elaroussy), No. 5 (John Chin defeated Harison Janes), and No. 6 (Taiyo Kurata topped Ale Vlahos), all in straight sets. Idriss Hadouch beat Eddie Biss at No. 4 and Carson Becker won at No. 1 against Dmitry Bezborodov to set up Stewart's dramatic finale.
"Boise State has a strong team," Ceolin said. "We are getting there. We continue to make progress. I'm looking forward to (Saturday's) competition."
Montana State plays Kennesaw State and then Boise State on Saturday afternoon before continuing its western swing with a Tuesday match at Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon.
