McCarty is 7-1 in singles play and 7-1 in doubles action this season.
For the second consecutive week Montana State sophomore tennis standout Meg McCarty has been named Big Sky Conference Player of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday.
McCarty, a graduate of Bozeman High School, combined with doubles partner Jojo Bach at No. 1 to defeat #29-ranked Andrea Beltran and Marley Lambert of Denver 7-6(3) in the Mile High City, last Friday. On Saturday, the duo defeated Alexis Odom and Maya Michalski of Air Force 6-3. McCarty also notched a 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 win over Odom at No. 2 singles as the Bobcats defeated the Falcons 4-3, marking the first time MSU has won at the USAF Academy.
"It's been so fun watching Meg improve over the last year-and-a-half," said MSU head coach Suzie Woodburn. "Meg has such a high tennis IQ, and she did an outstanding job executing her level of play last week.
"Meg has become a vocal leader and has embraced her role as captain," Woodburn added. "She played with a lot of grit and determination and her presence on the court is appreciated and relied upon by the team. Meg and J (Bach) played phenomenal tennis and they're very crafty together."
McCarty is 7-1 in singles play and 7-1 in doubles action this season.
Two weeks ago, McCarty went a combined 4-0 in singles and doubles play for Montana State. She competed at the No. 2 spot in singles and at the No. 1 in doubles position, downing foes from North Dakota and Northern Iowa. For her efforts, she garnered her first weekly accolade.
Montana State opens its Big Sky season at Northern Arizona on March 7.
