Becca Tschetter and Scarlet Weidig end first week of spring slate on high notes with individual match play wins
PALM DESERT, Calif. -- Montana State women's golf closed out their stay at Mountain Classic Match Play in Palm Desert, California, on Wednesday, falling 3-2 in a tight match to the University of Wyoming.
"Obviously we wanted to get a win today but it is what it is," head coach Brittany Basye said. "They all battled, and didn't give up. This is just the start and being outside for only two days practicing before having to compete is difficult. We have things now we can work on back home and when we get back outside again in ten days we will take advantage of that time. We are moving full steam ahead and look forward to green grass in a few days."
On Wednesday at the Classic Club, Scarlet Weidig earned a win over Wyoming's Megan Vogt by going up two holes with one to play, securing a victory and ending her week on a high note.
Becca Tschetter earned her second match play win in as many days, defeating Wyoming's Sophia Spiva by going one-up through the 15th hole before the match was called due to results at the other three spots. The graduate student carded three birdies and three bogies and was shooting even-par when the day concluded.
Tschetter finished the tournament 2-1, while Maddie Montoya, Scarlet Weidig, and Lauren Greeny all went 1-2 in their individual matches.
