Gareth Igesund joins Bobcats from South Africa via Montverde Academy
BOZEMAN, Mont. (December 19, 2025) – Gareth Igesund, who is trains at the Montverde Academy in Forida and is originally from South Africa, has signed a National Letter-of-Intent to join the Montana State men's tennis program, Bobcats head coach Mateus Ceolin announced.
"We're excited to welcome Gareth Igesund to the Bobcat Tennis family," Ceolin said. "Gareth is a high-character student-athlete who brings competitiveness, discipline, and a strong work ethic to our program. He is motivated, plays with intensity, and is the type of competitor that we want to have in our program."
Igesund trains at Montverde with Brazilian tennis legend Jaime Oncins, his country's current Davis Cup captain who reached a world ranking of No. 34 as a professional. Igesund's father, Gordon Igesund, played professional soccer for Crystal Palace and West Ham, and coached the South African National Team in 2013. That team beat the reigning world champions from Spain. Gareth's mother, Maggie du Plooy, coordinates a care facility in England, and his brother Dylan is a former tennis coach who currently plays and coaches padel professionally.
"Gareth is a highly coachable athlete and has shown consistent growth in his game over the last few years. He is a tremendous addition to our program, and I can't wait to welcome him to campus next August."
In the last four years, Igesund compiled a record of 101-30. He has won four titles and been a finalist in two other tournaments in the past year, and comes to Montana State with a UTR of 12.05. He will join the program in August, 2026.
