MSU’s last stretch was sparked by its freshmen class as Jamison Philip notched seven points, while Grace Hintz and Brianne Bailey added three and two, respectively.
Sophomore Taylee Chirrick's offensive putback gave Montana State an early 8-5 lead over Oregon, but the Ducks responded with three consecutive three-pointers as part of a 14-0 run and OU cruised to a 69-44 win over the Bobcats in Matthew Knight Arena on Sunday afternoon.
"Credit Oregon," said MSU head coach Tricia Binford. "They were a step ahead of us from the start. We weren't disruptive on the defensive end and missed some assignments, and good teams will take advantage of that."
Oregon (11-1), who received votes in this week's AP Top 25 poll, held Montana State (6-3) to just four points in the second quarter as the Bobcats connected on two-of-11 from the field. The Ducks owned a 37-14 lead at intermission, which included six 3-pointers and an 11-of-13 effort from the free throw line.
UO built its largest lead at 68-32 with 4:37 remaining in the contest before the Bobcats closed out the game on a 12-1 run. MSU's last stretch was sparked by its freshmen class as Jamison Philip notched seven points, while Grace Hintz and Brianne Bailey added three and two, respectively. The Bobcats outscored the Ducks 16-11 in the final frame.
"We did a much better job playing at the pace we're used too in the final quarter," Binford said. "We had a couple of rough practices during finals week, so we'll look to get back on track this week as we close out non-conference play against two very good programs."
Philip, a product of Ellensburg, Wash., finished with a season best 14 points, including a 10-of-11 performance at the free throw line. Chirrick ended with nine points, six rebounds and three steals. Hintz and Bailey also helped the Bobcats under the boards with five rebounds, each.
MSU shot 28.6% from the field and connected on a paltry one-of-19 from long distance. The Bobcats held the Ducks to 32.8% from the floor but couldn't overcome nine three-pointers and a 22-of-26 showing at the line.
Sofia Bell led Oregon with 15 points, including four 3-pointers.
