MSU faces another strong regional field

BOZEMAN, Mont. (Oct. 3, 2025) – Montana State's rigorous fall season continues this weekend, as the Bobcat men's tennis team travels to Salt Lake City for the Utah Invitational. Play runs Friday through Sunday at the George S. Eccles Tennis Center.

The Bobcats meet teams from throughout the intermountain region in a hidden dual format. That features informal team competition, and offers the Bobcats "another opportunity for our guys to compete against some good players from the Big Sky Conference as well as the Mountain Region," MSU head coach Mateus Ceolin said.

The Cats are fresh off a strong performance at the US Air Force Academy's Bedford Cup in the Mountains last weekend. Montana State won six singles matches, led by freshman David Ismanescu's 3-1 record. Sophomore Eddie Biss and freshmen Max Calaquian and Ethan Masselis each won a single match, as well. Biss and Ismanescu won a pair of doubles matches, and Calaquian and Masselis teamed for one victory.

"Overall it was a positive weekend for our team," Ceolin said. "Eddie and David have been playing good doubles together and meshing well as a team. David also had a great weekend in singles, going 3-1."

While Colin is pleased with the results, he's happier with the process. "What I am most proud of is the fight that these guys are showing," he said. "It doesn't matter if it is the first match or the last match of the tournament, as a group I feel like we are approaching everything in a professional way and competing very close to the best of our ability."

Ceolin indicated that junior Andre Stewart and sophomores Yassin Elaroussy, Oumar Diallo and Biss form MSU's travel contingent for the weekend's hidden dual at Salt Lake City. "It's another exciting weekend ahead for us," he said. "Andre, Yassin, Oumar, and Eddie will be competing in Salt Lake City and I am looking forward to what type of weekend we are going to have as a group."

After this week's action the Cats play in the ITA Fall Regionals on Oct. 15 before hosting the Bobcat Invitational beginning Oct. 24.
