MSU enters 2025 spring season with one returner
BOZEMAN, Mont. – Big Sky Conference coaches picked the Montana State men's team seventh entering the 2025 spring season, the league announced this week.
The Bobcats face the new season with a familiar faces leading the program. First-year head coach Mateus Ceolin and assistants Dylan Harvala and Creel Smith each played at and graduated from Montana State, and they welcome a nine-man roster which features one returner, sophomore Andrew Stewart. The Portugal native finished his freshman season with a 9-12 singles record, 8-10 in doubles play, and was 8-8 in singles and 6-5 in doubles in the fall.
The rest of the roster is filled with experienced transfers and promising freshmen. Dmitry Bezborodov is a graduate transfer in his final season of eligibility who enjoyed success at Division II Tusculum before playing Division I tennis at Monmouth (N.J.). Harrison Janes is a graduate transfer from Penn State. Freshman Eddie Biss (Auckland, New Zealand), Camille Chantron (Marseille, France), Oumar Diallo (from Miramar, Florida, who spent the fall at Bucknell), Yassin Elaroussy (Cairo, Egypt) and Alex Vlahos (Warsaw, Poland) each expect to challenge for lineup spots this spring.
Northern Arizona is predicted to win the Big Sky by league head coaches in the preseason poll for the sixth time in the last seven seasons, collecting six of the nine first place votes. The Lumberjacks return two all-conference players after sharing the league regular season title with Sacramento State a year ago. The Hornets topped NAU in the 2024 conference championship match, but are picked sixth this season.
Montana was picked second in the preseason poll and Weber State third, with each garnering one first place vote. Idaho State checked in at fourth in the preseason poll, with Idaho fifth, Sacramento State sixth, Montana State seventh, Portland State eighth, and Eastern Washington ninth. The 2025 Big Sky Conference Men's Tennis Championships take place April 24-26 in Phoenix, Arizona.
The Bobcats open play with a pair of matches in Denver, Colorado this weekend. The Cats face UC Davis at 11 am on Saturday and Denver on Sunday, both on the University of Denver campus. For information on video streaming and live stats please visit msubobcats.com.
