
Bobcats Head to Southern California for Big Weekend on the Track

Bobcats are Los Angeles-bound with split-squad action on tap in Long Beach and Azusa
LOS ANGELES – The Montana State track and field teams return to the Golden State this weekend, competing in three meets at two separate locations in the Los Angeles area beginning Thursday and continuing through Saturday.
The storied Bryan Clay Invitational headlines the weekend's action from Azusa Pacific University, with Bobcat contingents also competing at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate on Thursday on the campus of Long Beach State, and the two-day Beach Invite starting Friday at Jack Rose Track in Long Beach.

Montana State's men checked in at No. 25 in Tuesday's USTFCCCA Week 3 National Ratings Index, rising up to No. 4 in the Mountain Region behind Texas Tech, BYU, and Air Force. Montana State's women rose three spots to No. 8 in the Mountain Region.
The Cats are coming off a pair of dominant wins over their rival in the Cat-Griz Dual meet on Saturday at Bobcat Track and Field Complex, winning 27 of a combined 38 events while setting three school records and nearly twenty top-ten program marks.
The Bobcat men won the head-to-head over the Griz for the 11th time in the last 13 meetings, while the women won for the tenth time in the last 12 meetings.
Pat Vialva broke his own school record in the men's javelin (228-04), Michael Swan Jr., broke a 16-year old 200 meter record (21.17), and the women's 4x100 team of Elena Carter, Peyton Garrison, Leigha Carter, and Jaeden Wolff smashed the relay record with a time of 45.05.
Elijah Jackman was named Big Sky Men's Field Athlete of the Week after winning both the discus and hammer with program top-ten marks that pushed him to the top of the conference this season.
Montana State has earned the moniker "Steeple U" in recent years for standout performances on the national stage in the steeplechase, and will look to continue that tradition with some strong entries in Thursday evening's 3,000 meter steeplechase heats from the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa.
Rob McManus ranks second in the country in the event heading into the weekend, while Levi Taylor ranks fourth. Freshman Harvey Cramb is 23rd in NCAA Division I in the event, with Owen Smith 31st. For two weeks straight, the Montana State men's steeplechase group has been rated the best in the country according to USTFCCA' sEvent Ratings Index.
On the women's side, some of the Cats' top distance runners including Grace Gilbreth and Hannah Perrin, will race in the 3,000 meter steeplechase as well. Gilbreth ranks 18th in the country in the event, while Perrin is 41st.
The first steeplechase heat for the Cats gets started at 5:08 p.m. PT/6:08 p.m. MT, with the final heat involving McManus and Taylor getting underway at 7:04 p.m. PT/8:04 p.m. MT. FloTrack will begin streaming the Bryan Clay Invitational at 5 p.m. PT/6 p.m. MT on FloTrack.
