Paletti and Schweyen Shine in Multis On Days 1 and 2 at Riverfront Invite

First action in pentathlon and heptathlon from Spokane pays dividends
SPOKANE, Wash. -- A pair of big performances highlighted early action at the Riverfront Invitational & Multis in Spokane on Thursday and Friday, with Shelby Schweyen and Nicola Paletti impressing in their first multi-event competitions of the season.

Saturday will see the bulk of the action, with a full slate scheduled on both the track and in the field.
Schweyen finished up action in the women's pentathlon with all five events on Thursday, scoring 3,785 points—good for the fourth best score in Montana State history. The senior from Missoula got things started with an 8.94 in the 60 meter hurdles early, then moved up to third after strong performances in the high jump and shot put. Schweyen finished in fourth overall on the back of a 2:21.74 in the 800 meters.
Paletti completed the first four events of the men's heptathlon on Thursday night, sitting in first after marks were in for the 60 meters, long jump, shot put, and high jump. The junior from Bolzano, Italy, picked up right where he left off on Friday morning, closing out competition in the 60 meter hurdles, pole vault, and 1,000 meters. Paletti finished second, closing with 5,437 points—the third-most in MSU history and the most since 2013.
Elsewhere, Destiny Nkeonye tallied a personal best in the men's long jump, moving up a spot in the Montana State top-ten to fourth on a leap of 24-02.25 to finish second.
In the women's long jump, Hailey Coey took fourth with a mark of 19-04.25, just a hair off her No. 4 leap in the MSU all-time top ten.
Jaeden Wolff, who set the school record in the 60 meters last week, pushed the bar forward in the 200 meters by crossing the line in 24.00 flat, improving on her mark of 24.06 that was already the second-fastest time in school history. The sophomore from Billings finished third in competition.
In the women's 800 meters, Madison Smith finished third, Sydney Brewster recorded a personal best in the women's weight throw with a toss of 53-11.25, and Ryan McCartney picked up a PR in the men's weight throw with a mark of 55-04.75.

Montana State closes out competition at the Riverfront Invitational and Multis on Saturday. The women's shot put gets underway at 10 a.m. PT, while qualifying heats in the women's 60 meter hurdles will also start at 10 a.m. PT.
