“We have been working hard at our doubles and it was great to get the point,” said MSU head coach Suzie Woodburn.
Montana State won the opening doubles point with wins at Nos. 1 and 2, but it wasn't enough as Eastern Washington grabbed four of six singles matches to record a 4-3 win over the Bobcats on Saturday afternoon.
MSU's top tandem of Marta Garcia-Reboredo and Hudson Hawkins opened the contest with a 6-4 win over Scout Mathews and Isabella Foshee. The Bobcat freshmen duo of Meg McCarty and Paula Dougherty combined at No. 2 doubles to dispatch Leandra Nizetic and Kelly Arends.
"We have been working hard at our doubles and it was great to get the point," said MSU head coach Suzie Woodburn. "It wasn't enough, though. We are a young team and growing each time we step on the court. There were many positives to take away and many learning moments in this match. We will take the good and focus on the things we need to get better."
Montana State (6-4, 0-2) has three freshmen in its six-person singles line up and four in doubles.
MSU's earned two points in singles action as Garcia-Reboredo notched a 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 win over Mathews at No. 1, while Andrea Cuquerella posted a 6-2, 6-0 decision over Kenzington Mann.
Montana State plays at Cal Poly, March 1 in San Luis Obispo.
