Cats Fall to Seattle U on Tuesday in Match Play

Eva Heinz and Scarlet Weidig lead Montana State into Wednesday’s tournament finale against Portland State
PALM DESERT, Calif. -- Montana State women's golf fell, 5-0, in a consolation match to Seattle University on Tuesday at the Mountain Classic Match Play tournament in Palm Desert, California.
In their second day of competition this spring, the Cats hung with the Redhawks throughout the afternoon but struggled to maintain rhythm and couldn't get over the hump to surpass a hot Seattle U team.
Montana State will face Portland State on Wednesday in the seventh-place match to wrap up the tournament hosted by Wyoming and Boise State at The Classic Club.
Portland State fell, 3-0-2, to Boise State in the quarterfinal on Monday and fell 4-1-0 to North Dakota State in their consolation match on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, Scarlet Weidig bounced back from an unsteady start to her round to record a par on seven straight holes from the sixth through the 12th, then made a furious run with three birdies over her last six holes.
Eva Heinz went toe-to-toe with Seattle U's Rivekka Jumagulova and birdied the 15th hole to get back to just one-down, but ran out of holes to make a comeback, ending the day at two-down.
"Obviously didn't play amazing golf, we were a little rusty for sure," head coach Brittany Basye said. "Seattle is a good team and they played well--congrats to them. We needed to make birdies and we didn't. Scarlet and Eva got it to hole 18. Tomorrow we get to play Portland State and we will be ready!"
On the day, Weidig fell 2&0, Heinz fell 2&0, Hannah Boraas fell 6&4, Maddie Montoya fell 5&4, and Jordan Briggs fell 4&3.
