Cats Prepare for Final Regular Season Road Trip

Montana State takes to the road for the final time in the regular season this weekend.
NEXT UP: Montana State takes to the road for the final time in the regular season this weekend. The Bobcats face Idaho in Moscow, Thursday, Nov. 7 at 5 p.m. (MT) in Memorial Gym. MSU closes out the weekend at Eastern Washington in Cheney, Saturday, Nov. 9 at 3 p.m. (MT) at Reese Court.
QUICK SETS: After dropping two home matches to Weber State (3-0) and Idaho State (3-2) the Bobcats are 7-15 overall and 5-6 in Big Sky action. Idaho is 1-21 overall and in search of its first league win at 0-11. Eastern Washington, who faces Montana on Thursday night, is 10-11overall and 6-5 in Big Sky Conference play.
SCOUTING REPORT: Idaho is 1-21 overall and 0-11 in Big Sky Conference play after dropping a pair of road matches at Sacramento State (3-0) and Portland State (3-0), last weekend. MSU and UI met Oct. 12 in Bozeman with the Bobcats coming out with a 25-17, 25-19, 25-17 victory. MSU was led by Jourdain Kamps and Madilyn Siebler with nine kills, while UI was paced by Zuzanna Wieczorek with nine. Eastern Washington is 10-11overall and 6-5 in Big Sky action. The Eagles host Montana on Thursday night. EWU defeated MSU 25-27, 25-23, 25-22, 18-25, 15-13 on Oct. 10.
AMONG THE NATION'S ELITE: As a team Montana State ranks 21st in the nation, averaging 2.65 blocks per set. MSU is also listed 29th in the country with 227.5total blocks. Last Friday, MSU opponents outblocked the Cats outblocked Montana 2.88 to 2.13 per set. The nation's top blocking program to date is Louisville at 3.06 bps. Individually, Jourdain Kamps leads the Bobcats averaging 1.25 per set, followed by Jordan Radick 1.23 and Joelie Spelts .95. Kamps and Radick rank 52nd and 57th in the nation in blocks per set, respectively. In Big Sky matches, MSU has three of the top five blockers in the league. Kamps is 2nd at 1.37 bps, Radick 4th at 1.33 bps, and sophomore Joelie Spelts is 5th at 1.23 bps.
ANYONE, ANYTIME, ANYPLACE: According to the NCAA rankings this week, Montana State's 2024 schedule is the 58th toughest in the nation and tops in the Big Sky Conference. The Bobcats have faced three teams ranked in the AVCA/TARAFLEX Division I Women's Volleyball Top 25 poll - #2 Nebraska, #11 Arizona State and (RV) Washington.
PACKING THE PLACE: Montana State is averaging 946 fans this season (seven matches). On Oct. 12 against Idaho, the Bobcats saw a season-high 1,347 fans pack Shroyer Gym. MSU is currently ranked 79th in the nation for attendance, ahead of programs such as Clemson, Florida State, and Alabama. Last fall, MSU finished 65th in the nation averaging 1,115 fans per game. On Sept. 30, 2022, Montana State set a Big Sky and State of Montana record when 6,457 fans jammed Worthington Arena.

THE MENACE FROM ENNIS: Jourdain Kamps, who was a First-Team All-Big Sky pick in 2023, is averaging 2.64 kills per set with a .241 attack mark. In addition, she is chipping in 1.25 blocks and .68 digs per contest. Kamps had her best match of the year at Weber State on Oct. 5 recording a career-high 26 kills, while hitting .382 and adding a career-best 10 blocks. For her efforts, she was named Big Sky Offensive Player of the Week for the second team in her career. Kamps also became the 18th member of MSU's 1,000-kill club. Her current total of 1,084 kills ranks 12th all-time. Kamps is currently averaging 2.98 kills and 1.37 blocks per set in Big Sky Conference action. The product of Ennis, Mont., has been in double-figure kills in ten matches, including two 20 kill matches (Weber State/Idaho State). Kamps, who has been part of the Bobcat program since redshirting in 2019, moved into third on MSU's all-time block assists chart with 450, while her 474 total blocks are fifth all-time. Kamps was a Second Team All-Big Sky pick in the spring of 2021 after averaging 1.49 kills and .97 blocks in the shortened 15-match season.
GOTTA DIG IT: Lauren Lindseth has totaled 390 digs in 86 sets. Last week, the Great Falls native registered 43 digs, averaging 5.38 per set. She currently leads the Big Sky in league matches averaging 4.86 dps. Lindseth became the 11th member of MSU's 1,000-Dig Club against Denver on Sept. 5. Her current total of 1,359 career digs is fifth all-time. She has 19 matches in double-digit digs this season. Last fall, Lindseth ranked seventh in Big Sky play averaging 3.77 per game. On Aug. 31, 2023, she recorded a career-high 34 digs against St. Thomas (MN). For the season, Lindseth recorded 28 matches in double-digit digs. Lindseth's 494 digs last fall were the fifth best single season mark in MSU history, while her freshman total of 475 digs ranks sixth. As a sophomore, she was in double-digit digs in 22 matches, including a streak of 13 consecutive matches. Lindseth has earned All-Big Sky Tournament honors the last two seasons, and she is a five-time Big Sky Defensive Player of the Year honoree.
A LENDING HAND: Senior Nellie Stevenson has played all 22 matches as MSU's setter. The 5-11 senior from San Leandro, Calif., dished out 39 assists last week, averaging 4.88 per set. Her current 6.24 assists average ranks seventh in the Big Sky. Stevenson, who comes to MSU via Feather River Junior College, dished out 1,049 assists last fall, averaging 8.53 per set. That mark ranked fifth in Big Sky action.
CAMMER TIME: Montana State junior middle blocker Camryn Greenwald saw action in all eight sets last week. The Woodbury, Minn., product recorded nine kills, three digs and a block assist against Weber State and Idaho State. At Weber State on Oct. 5, Greenwald had a career-best 16 kills. She had a career-high nine blocks against Middle Tennessee on Sept. 1. Last fall, she averaged 1.62 kills and .96 blocks, while hitting a team-high .268. Greenwald recorded five matches in double-figure kills.
JO KNOWS: Bozeman product and senior middle blocker Jordan Radick posted 11 kills and 12 blocks last week against Weber State and Idaho State. On the season, Radick averages 1.18 kills and 1.23 blocks per set, while hitting .281. Radick was the Big Sky Conference Defensive Player of the Week on October 7, after averaging 1.70 blocks per set in wins at Idaho State and Weber State.
JUST A BLUR: Madilyn Siebler is averaged 2.63 kills and 2.65 digs per set this season. The junior outside hitter from Omaha, Neb., had a season-high 16 kills against Eastern Washington on Oct. 10. Last week, she recorded 26 kills, four service aces, 24 digs and two blocks. Siebler has ten double-doubles on the season- tops on the team.
STORM WARNING: Courtney Weatherby has started the last eight matches, producing 38 kills and 76 digs. Last week, she had 14 kills and 23 digs. A product of Kuna, Idaho, she had a season-best 13 kills at Idaho State on Oct. 3 in Pocatello.
HIDE AND SEEK: Redshirt freshman Karli Heidemann had a season-high 16 kills in MSU's match against Denver at the Husker Invite, Sept. 5. For the season, the product of Diller, Neb., is averaging 2.33 kills and 2.51 points per set. Heidemann had three kills at both Northern Colorado and Northern Arizona in mid-October. Heidemann registered a season best nine digs on two occasions, the last at Sac St.
AUDREY'S ASSISTS: Setter Audrey Hofer played in all eight sets last week and dished out 41 assists and added ten digs. Hofer had a season-best 31 assists vs. Eastern Washington on Oct. 10.
CASTING SPELTS: Sophomore Joelie Spelts has played in 22 matches, including the last 15 as a starter. The native of Gillette, Wyo., is averaging 1.77 kills and 1.23 blocks per set in Big Sky action. Spelts had a career-best 17 kills and hit .577 against E. Washington on Oct. 10.
MAKING A DENT: Freshman-redshirt Erika Gustafson, a product of Denton, Texas, has played in 16 matches, including five starts. She is currently averaging 1.10 kills and .73 blocks per game. Gustafson had a season-high 13 kills and hit .611 vs. Prairie View A&M on Sept. 20.
LOOK FAMILIAR: Freshman Afton Thomsen may look familiar. She is the sister of former Bobcat standout Kira Thomsen. On the season, Afton has played in 13 sets and has recorded six total digs. Kira finished her tenure as MSU's all-time career leader in kills (1,688) and attacks (4,827). Kira is currently playing professionally in Germany.
YO TEYA: Freshman Teya Yeomans made her first appearance in the Blue and Gold against Idaho on Oct. 12. The native on Mancos, Colo., posted two kills and had one block assist. Her second kill against the Vandals was match point.
