QUICK SETS: MSU went 2-0 in Big Sky play last week defeating Idaho State and Weber State by identical 3-2 decisions. Eastern Washington faced Idaho and defeated the Vandals 3-0 in Moscow. EWU is 5-8 overall and 1-2 in league play. Idaho, who plays at Montana on Thursday night, is 1-13 overall and 0-3 in Big Sky Conference action.
TWTWTW: Jourdain Kamps became the 18th member of MSU's prestigious 1,000-kill club, recording a career-high 26 kills as the Bobcats posted a 31-33, 25-20, 25-23, 20-25, 15-11 win over Weber State on Saturday night. The win was Montana State's fourth straight victory in Swenson Gym, with the last three matches all going the distance. Kamps completed an outstanding week recording a career-high ten blocks. MSU outblocked WSU 18-9 as Jordan Radick and Joelie Spelts added nine and seven blocks, respectively. Offensively, Camryn Greenwald and Madilyn Siebler also reached double digit kills with 16 and ten. Greenwald's kill total was a career best. MSU's setting duo of Nellie Stevenson and Audrey Hofer dished out 33 and 31 assists, respectively. Lauren Lindseth guided the Bobcats with 19 digs, while Siebler 12 and Hofer 10 also hit double figure saves. Montana State outblocked the nation's top blocking team and received a season-high 20 kills from fifth-year player Jourdain Kamps to hold off Idaho State 30-28, 25-22, 16-25, 21-25, 15-6 on Thursday night in Reed Gym. Kamps had 20 kills for the Bobcats.
CATS SWEEP WEEKLY AWARDS: After putting together its best back-to back matches of the season, MSU was rewarded for its efforts sweeping the weekly Big Sky Players of the Week honors. Fifth-year standout Jourdain Kamps was named offensive player of the week, while senior Jordan Radick captured defensive player of the week accolades. Kamps averaged 4.60 kills per set with a .378 attack as the Bobcats defeated Idaho State and Weber State on the road. In addition, she recorded a career-high 26 kills against the Wildcats, averaging 5.2 kills per set and hitting .382. At WSU, she also became the 18th member of MSU's 1,000-kill club. Last Thursday, Kamps paced MSU past Idaho State with 20 kills and five blocks. She finished the two matches with 15 total blocks. Radick led a strong Bobcat block against Idaho State and Weber State. The 6-1 middle blocker averaged 1.70 blocks per set. Radick registered nine blocks against Weber State and eight at Idaho State. On Thursday at ISU, the Bobcats outblocked the nation's top blocking team 18-12. MSU followed that performance out-blocking Weber State 18-9 on Saturday night.
SCOUTING REPORT: Eastern Washington is 5-8 overall and 1-2 in Big Sky Conference play heading into Thursday night's encounter with the Bobcats. The Eagles defeated Idaho 25-15, 25-14, 25-10 in its only match last week. EWU was led by Bri Gunderson with 10 kills, a .600 attack mark and four blocks. Alyssa Radke and Kalista Lukovich also contributed to the win with eight and seven kills, respectively. On the season, Lukovich, a 6-0 sophomore outside hitter from Happy Valley, Ore., has guided the Eagles averaging 3.00 kills per set, while Gunderson chips in 2.69 kps. Defensively, Makenna Collins averages 3.71 digs per contest. Idaho is 1-13 overall and 0-3 in Big Sky action heading into Thursday night's match at Montana. Idaho's lone victory was a 3-1 decision over Sienna College on Sept. 13 in Loudonville, N.Y. In its only match last week - a 3-0 setback to Eastern Washington - the Vandals were led by Madu Fontes with seven kills, while Miya Carmichael and Natalia Wielgus dished out ten assists apiece. On the season, Idaho has been paced by Madu and Zuzanna Wieczorek, who average 2.55 and 2.45 kills per set.
AMONG THE NATION'S ELITE: As a team Montana State ranks 15th in the nation with 160.5 total blocks and 25th in blocks per set at 2.65. Last weekend, the Cats outblocked its opponents 3.60 to 2.10 per set. The nation's top blocking program to date is Idaho State at 3.22 bps. Individually, Jordan Radick leads MSU averaging 1.19 bps, while Jourdain Kamps averages 1.12 per contest. Camryn Greenwald .92, Joelie Spelts .86, and Erika Gustafson .85 also rank among the top blockers in the Big Sky. Radick and Kamps rank 91st and 136th in the nation, respectively.
ANYONE, ANYTIME, ANYPLACE: According to the NCAA rankings, Montana State's 2024 schedule is the 39th toughest slate in the nation and tops in the Big Sky Conference. The Bobcats have faced three teams ranked this week in the AVCA/TARAFLEX Division I Women's Volleyball Top 25 poll - #2 Nebraska, #13 Arizona State, and #24 Washington.
PACKING THE PLACE: Montana State is averaging 951 fans this season (three matches). On Aug. 30 against Big Ten newcomer Washington, 1,232 fans watched the Cats open their season in Shroyer Gym. Last fall, MSU finished 65th in the nation averaging 1,115 fans per game. On Sept. 30, 2022, Montana State set a Big Sky and State of Montana record when 6,457 fans jammed Worthington Arena.
HORSESHOES & HAND GRENADES: Nine of Montana State's 60 sets played have gone to extra points. The Bobcats are 5-4 in those matches. MSU's last extra point set (31-33) came in the first set against Weber State on Saturday night in Odgen. MSU took a 30-28 decision in the opening frame against Idaho State on Thursday.

In addition, she is chipping in 1.12 blocks and 0.76 digs per contest. Kamps had her best match of the year at Weber State on Saturday recording a career-high 26 kills, while hitting .382 and adding a career-best 10 blocks. For her efforts, she was named Big Sky Offensive Player of the Week for the second team in her career. Kamps also became the 18th member of MSU's 1,000-kill club. Her current total of 1,019 kills ranks 17th all-time. Last fall, Kamps averaged 2.57 kills, while hitting .263. In addition, she averaged 1.90 digs and .91 blocks and chipped in 24 aces. The product of Ennis, Mont., was in double-figure kills in twenty matches, including 18 kills on two occasions, the last coming at Weber State on Nov. 11, 2023. Kamps, who has been part of the Bobcat program since redshirting in 2019, moved into fifth on MSU's all-time block assists chart with 410, while her 434 total blocks are fifth all-time. Kamps was a Second Team All-Big Sky pick in the spring of 2021 after averaging 1.49 kills and .97 blocks in the shortened 15-match season.
GOTTA DIG IT: Lauren Lindseth has opened the 2024 campaign totaling 254 digs in 60 sets. Last weekend, she averaged 3.20 digs per set. She had her best outing against Weber State, averaging 3.80 dps. Lindseth became the 11th member of MSU's 1,000 Dig Club against Denver on Sept. 5. Her current total of 1,223 career digs is sixth all-time. Last fall, Lindseth ranked seventh in Big Sky play averaging 3.77 per game. On Aug. 31, 2023, she recorded a career-high 34 digs against St. Thomas (MN). For the season, Lindseth recorded 28 matches in double-digit digs. Lindseth's 494 digs last were the fifth best single season mark in MSU history, while her freshman total of 475 digs ranks sixth. As a sophomore, she was in double-digit digs in 22 matches, including a streak of 13 consecutive matches. Lindseth has earned All-Big Sky Tournament honors the last two seasons, and she is a four-time Big Sky Defensive Player of the Year honoree.
A LENDING HAND: Senior Nellie Stevenson has played all 15 matches as MSU's setter. The 5-11 senior from San Leandro, Calif., dished out 6.50 assists per set last weekend against Idaho State and Weber State. Her current 6.66 assists average ranks sixth in Big Sky play. Stevenson, who comes to MSU via Feather River Junior College, dished out 1,049 assists last fall, averaging 8.53 per set. That mark ranked fifth in Big Sky action.
CAMMER TIME: Montana State junior middle blocker Camryn Greenwald is off to a strong. The product of Woodbury, Minn., averaged 2.50 kills and 1.20 blocks per set against Idaho State and Weber State. Greenwald had her best match against WSU with a career-best 16 kills, while hitting .400 and adding four blocks. Earlier this season, she had a career-high nine blocks against Middle Tennessee. Last fall, she averaged 1.62 kills and .96 blocks, while hitting a team-high .268. Greenwald recorded five matches in double-figure kills, including a season-high 13 against Idaho on Oct. 14.
JO KNOWS: Bozeman product and senior middle blocker Jordan Radick posted 17 total blocks, averaging a whopping 1.70 bps against Idaho State and Weber State last week. For her efforts, she was the Big Sky Defensive Player of the Week. On the season, Radick is averaging 1.19 kills and 1.19 blocks per game, while hitting .268.
JUST A BLUR: Madilyn Siebler has averaged 2.47 kills and 2.60 digs per set this season. The junior outside hitter from Omaha, Neb., had a season-high 15 kills against Denver on Sept. 5. Last weekend she averaged 2.22 kills and 2.80 saves per game. Siebler had two double-doubles last weekend giving her seven on the season, which is tops on the team.
STORM WARNING: Courtney Weatherby got the start against Weber State on Saturday and recorded eight kills and eight digs. In MSU's win at Idaho State on Thursday, she had a season best 13 kills.
HIDE AND SEEK: Redshirt freshman Karli Heidemann had a season-high 16 kills in MSU's match against Denver at the Husker Invite on Sept. 5. For the season, the product of Diller, Neb., is averaging 2.36 kills and 2.56 points per set. Heidemann came off the bench to deliver a big kill - her only kill- against Weber State on Saturday. She had two kills on the week.
AUDREY'S ASSISTS: Senior setter Audrey Hofer played in all 10 sets for MSU last week. She averaged 5.30 assists and 1.80 digs per set. Hofer had a season-best 31 assists in MSU's win over Weber State.
CASTING SPELTS: Sophomore Joelie Spelts has played in 15 matches, including the last eight as a starter. The native of Gillette, Wyo., is averaging 1.22 kills and .86 blocks per set. Spelts had a career-best 13 kills vs. Iowa State on Sept. 15 at the South Dakota Coyote Classic.
MAKING A DENT: Freshman-redshirt Erika Gustafson, a product of Denton, Texas, has played in 11 matches, including starts in her last five outings. She is currently averaging 1.25 kills and .85 blocks per game. Gustafson had a season-high 13 kills vs. Prairie View A&M on Sept. 20.
LOOK FAMILIAR: Freshman Afton Thomsen may look familiar. She is the sister of former Bobcat standout Kira Thomsen. On the season, Afton has played in 11 sets and has recorded six total digs. Kira finished her tenure as MSU's all-time career leader in kills (1,688) and attacks (4,827). Kira is currently playing professionally in Germany.
